Cold Sore Symptoms
If you start to experience symptoms, it is important to use cold sore treatments as soon as possible. Sometimes a person may feel the symptoms before the cold sore is visible. Usually the first cold sore symptoms are a tingling or burning sensation at the location where the cold sore will occur. This feeling can happen anywhere from a few hours before the sore starts to a day or two before. As the cold sore begins to form, small fluid filled blisters will appear in the area. Many times these blisters starts and many smaller blisters, which may grow together to form a larger blister. These blisters usually grow, and then break open to weep a clear fluid, eventually crusting over as a scab.
The main cold sore symptoms include:
*A red, painful area of your skin that is painful and develops small, fluid-filled blisters (usually occuring on the mouth)
*A tingling sensation or pain in the area before any visible symptoms occur
*Sores that last for 7-10 days, starting as blisters and eventually crusting over
One the sores occur, you may experience some pain. Also, some people experience swelling in the area during the first few days of the sores. As the blisters dry up, the sores will scab over. The scabs usually last for a few days, but if the infection is more severe the scabs may last longer.
